Harriet Tubman To Be the New Face of $20 Bill

By  |

The Department of Treasury is set to announce today that Harriet Tubman will be taking Andrew Jackson’s place on the $20 bill. All U.S. paper currency has old white men on them and it’s time that we get some womenz womenz womenz! For that woman to be a woman of color makes me even happier.

The new designs, from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, would be made public in 2020 in time for the centennial of woman’s suffrage and the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. None of the bills, including a new $5 note, would reach circulation until the next decade. New York Times

It’s being reported that the first bill probably won’t be printed until 2030. That’s 14 years from now! Chile will we be using paper currency in that time? Either way, this is a step in the right direction as other civil right leaders are supposed to making their way to other currency.

There was talk of having Harriet Tubman on the $10 bill last year, because of the time frame the $20 bill will take to be printed. The recent success of the Alexander Hamilton stage play might have saved him.

What do you think of Harriet Tubman being the face of the $20 bill? Do you think she gives a damn?
