I Can Be A Fan & Still Critique An Artist Especially Beyoncé

By  |

This Lemonade is starting to taste like cult kool-aid and I don’t want any parts of it. Saturday night Beyoncé the light skin Jesus released a visual album ‘Lemonade’. The visual album was released on HBO and in the first 20 minutes, I was bored and bout fell asleep.

That night I was invited to a watch party and me and others watched Beyoncé smash shit up and serve Blair Witch teas. After it was over I felt confused and lost so I took to YouTube to give a review.  (Click here if you missed it) In the review, I just told the truth. That I wanted something to dance to but I didn’t get that. She can do whatever she wants with her music career and I can most definitely critique it.

Screen Shot 2016-04-17 at 9.12.48 PMAfter my review was posted on YouTube the comments flooded with people calling me everything but a child of God. I found it quite funny because I only was giving my honest opinion at that moment in time. Sure I’m a male and maybe the album wasn’t for me. But Beyoncé didn’t tell me sh*t and she most definitely didn’t tell you sh*t either.’Formation‘ was released and I fell in love! So I expected this album to be something of the same. I went into Saturday night expecting something upbeat and I felt catfished afterwards. Bey doesn’t do interviews anymore neither does she promote her music like any other artist. We had no idea what the album would sound like so I assumed. I failed.

imageThe album sounds as if she is discussing her marital problems with  her husband Jay-Z. I don’t care about her marital problems honestly. Does that make me a bad person? No. I have my own lemons to worry about. Like why this 1-800 keep calling for a bill I don’t have any money to pay. I wanted some music to help me take my mind off of things and I felt like I didn’t get it. I purchased the album last night to listen to it without the visuals and it’s cute so far. Very inspiring, some songs I don’t even have to skip. There are people who aren’t going to like certain things, doesn’t mean they don’t know art or mad just different taste. Some people hate coleslaw I, however, will eat it on almost everything, especially barbeque.

My point is as a fan that purchases music from Beyoncé I should be able to critique her and any other artist. Question everything I always say. Even Beyoncé…

I pray that you were listening.
