The man who was threatened with a gun and called homophobic slurs on video has come out and shared his experience. The video has since gone viral has had many confused to what would cause so much hatred.

The 23-year-old victim did not want to give his name but spoke with Action News 7 out of Detroit.

What was going through my mind was not me, I don’t want to go out like that,” he tells us. “I feel like my life matters.”

“I was in denial like I couldn’t believe it. Like whoa is this a dream or really happening. Not in my own neighborhood seriously,” he says. Despite fearing for his safety, he’s sharing his story so others don’t have to become victims. Since the Twitter post by the guy with the gun that has been shared thousands of times, many others have weighed in calling it stupid, uncalled for and rude and disrespectful among other things. This man is brave. For him to come forward and speak out without giving his name lets me know that he fears for his life. As of now the Detroit Police Department in the area are working to find the suspect. It’s only a matter of time before he is arrested at this point.

“In our minds, it has met the elements for such a charge,” says Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody. “Our message is simple. We will find you and arrest you.”

I’m hoping to wake up and find that this man has been arrested and charged with a hate crime.

I will update as the story continues and until he is arrested.
